OVERVIEW:
DIRECTING: SCRIPT TO SCREEN is our most comprehensive film-making course to date, created for current and future film makers, and actors who wish to produce their own content. The 10 week term guides students through the fundamentals of screenwriting, producing and film-making.
WHAT'S COVERED:
WRITING FOR SCREEN
What you will learn: The fundamentals of screenwriting, Dramatic structure and development, Creating an idea for screen and developing it, Scene structure, Character and Plot development, Story arc., Genre, Dramatic and literary traditions, Writing to budget, Pitching - Step outline, treatment, tag lines, short and long synopsis.
PRODUCING
From script to screen.
We will cover: Pre-production planning., Script breakdown (by department; casting, locations, crew, equipment, etc), Project timeline, Budgeting, finances and funding options.
FILM-MAKING
In this day and age as an actor, you need to be able to make your own work.
We will cover: How to film a scene, Acting for camera

Directing actors on screen and directing your crew.

ADDITIONAL
We will cover elements related to work as a 1st AD - The 1st AD runs the set during principle photography, so the skills learnt as a 1st AD give you a broad understanding of every department, but an in-dept understanding of how a set is managed on a day to day basis.
Everyone will write a short film and we will aim to shoot scenes from these scripts in a controlled environment, which will replicate the real life experience.
You will be expected to direct your own scenes and you will be expected to take on other roles for scenes that will be shot from others scripts. Such as, camera op, sound, producer, 1st AD, locations and props manager etc.
TERM: JANUARY 19th - MARCH 23rd, 2021 TIME: 7.30 -10pm Tuesday Evenings
CULMINATION:
Every participant will write a short film and we will aim to shoot scenes from these scripts in a controlled environment, which will replicate the real life experience.

TUTOR: WESLEY O'DUINN
Wesley is the in-house producer and writer for Heavy Man Films. He writes, produces and directs content for TV, such as adverts and non-fiction TV. Wesley produced, wrote and directed the Fleagh Cheoil segment that will be going out on TG4 in August, as well as this he wrote, produced and directed the Galway 2020 advert currently on TG4 and RTE and he wrote and produced the Simon Community advert currently airing.
Wesley holds an MA in screenwriting from IADT and his current feature film Dark Soil is supported by Screen Ireland and Screen Skills Ireland and was accepted onto the Torino Film Lab.
As a 1st AD Wesley has credits on Cardboard Gangsters (Netflix) and the award winning films HALO and Vegetable. He directed the award winning film Summon Her Children.
Wesley is a graduate of The Gaiety School of Acting and has acting credits on Vikings, Fair City and The Young Offenders.
From Wesley’s last film making course, 2 students set up the production company PALE REBEL, their first feature film Redemption of a Rogue won best Irish film at The Galway Film Fleadh this year.
